The Moraine is a home for the craft of wood.

Here, master woodworkers from Japan, Europe and beyond come to teach skills that are quietly disappearing: hand joinery, furniture making, the art of the timber frame. It is a place where architects, builders and makers learn side by side, and where knowledge passes from hand to hand.

After five years of patience, a new timber-frame workshop will rise beside our historic house in the coming spring. It will hold courses and residencies, guest masters, and long evenings at the workbench.

On 20 November, we begin.

The afternoon opens on the land with a Building Ritual, honoring the site and its first beam. Over tea, we welcome words from the municipality, followed by reflections on regenerative design, on craft and forest, and on building with timber in our time. Speakers and guests then gather for an open conversation: Building a Home for Craft.

As evening falls, we premiere our film and open the crowdfunding for the workshop. Every contribution helps raise its beams. The night closes with drinks and conversation.

In Japanese joinery, no nail holds a building together. Each joint carries the next.

Speculative

Speculaas

28 November 2026

Boek deze workshop voor je team of als leuk familie of vrienden uitje! Neem contact met ons op over de mogelijke datum.

Zaterdag 28 November is de volgende! 13.00 -17.00

We gaan:

The Moraine House of Wood is delighted to invite you to a three-day Make Wood session- A tailored made workshop for one or two people max.

Over the course of three days, you will work one-to-one with Yaniv Schwartz, a multidisciplinary artist and woodworker.

Forest Workout & Yoga

Thursdays 18:30-20:30

On Thursdays, we host a unique combined session that blends movement, nature, and deep restoration. We begin with an active outdoor forest workout, so bring sports clothes that are suitable for both the outdoor and indoor sessions. You’re welcome to join either one or experience the full journey. Together, we immerse ourselves in the forest, moving through beautiful surroundings and scenic viewpoints, because the best gym doesn’t have walls.

After the outdoor session, we transition indoors for a calming yoga and meditation practice. This session weaves together elements of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to help you fully unwind.
These two sessions are intentionally designed as a combination to regenerate your whole system, physically, mentally, and energetically.

Moroccan mint roots quickly. Place a cutting in water, and within a few days new roots begin to appear. It is a simple, everyday process, but it speaks to something much larger: how we take root, how we carry stories with us, and how we form new connections in unfamiliar places.

Mint is deeply woven into Moroccan daily life. It grows in gardens and pots, is shared between neighbours, and is part of the rituals of hospitality, conversation and food. This plant, and the rich ethnobotanical stories surrounding it, became the starting point for this residency.

This winter we’re hosting a one-week residency in Fez, exploring the city’s history through food and craft. We’ll stay in a beautiful historic riad and co-host workshops and visits to cultural institutions. Yaniv’s grandparents came from Fez, which was our first inspiration to develop a residency in this city.

Together we’ll explore questions like these:

  • How are family stories remembered, passed on and reinvented?

  • How do food, craft and everyday rituals shape our sense of identity?

  • What happens to those stories when we migrate, when traditions meet new places, or when memories are interrupted by conflict?

We’re hosting this residency together with Simon van den Berg.
